Los Angeles MTA sit and running 17 [so much waste,really]

Bus #9296, NOT IN SERVICE, east-bound on 6th St. just before Grand Ave on 03-16-08 at approx. 3:40 P.M. Two employees sitting in front of bus #9296, talking I guess, don't know but they're there. MTA white vehicle parked parked behind bus # 9296 one employee walks past us and he goes to white MTA vehicle and pulls out a rolling measuring stick. Well you can see. Thing is bus is running whole time, seven minutes and 23 seconds till I say that's enough and turn off camera. I was on my way home when I saw this. What excuse for this waste?

For your info, The white MTA vehicle is an MTA supervisor vehicle. The bus obviously is stopped for a reason. The buses are not allowed to be turned off in certain situations, like on a hot day or cold day. If the bus is turned off, the temp on the bus would be 100+ degrees hotter than it is outside of the bus. If the bus is turned off in cold weather, it won't start for 20 minutes or more. The bus will end up being late if the engine is turned off.

He is pissed off becuase he is on welfare,does not have to work,and has nothing to do than go out and tape buses that are sitting,this dude aint got no life..

These buses run on CNG. They are not related to oil, just methane gas. I know that you've been complaining, but I don't know the exact reason why the buses are running. I know Big-Rigs idle especially when they are not in use, but they use diesel fuel and they are more wasteful.

MTA does not create the buses. An outside party contracts with MTA to build them.
