@autozavod That's exactly why I'm looking at 3.5" gauge too . My father only has 5" gauge and I started building a Tom Rolt in 5" (we have the track) but it's going to weight close to 100kg ... way to heavy to be practical especialy when you have stairs , a kitchen and a garden to go across . I'm looking at a 3.5" Jubilee (Stanier 2-6-4) which at 35kg will be easy enough to carry but still heavy enought to pull 3-4 people easy :) also I'm discovering that 3.5" castings and boiler is way cheaper!

@harley333man That's still a cool layout though

@chappybolo Nice videos, and a ghood few things to keep you busy! My track's only 20' radius at the tight end - I needed to leave some space for the garage!

@harley333man Yes thats true, I have ran two Maisies and they seemed to react to load with a little slippery of a response. I have a few videos, check em' out. I have a cabride video. what is your radius here?

@chappybolo I agree with you completely. She hardly notices hauling one or two, but starting without slip with three can be interesting. I've never tried more, and suspect my fairly tight radii would be an issue with a longer train. Perhaps we just need lighter friends!

That is a very very nice maisie there. I have one myself. they are powerful, well mannered to fire but a bit slippery in my case haha. What load can yours manage? I usually find my maximum hauglage capacity around 3-6 people depending on layouts.
Excellent camera work with different angles and perspectives. I have to confess that I used to look down on 3 1/2" gauge, but am now building my own and already thinking of what's to come next. They are just so much easier to lift in and out of the car than my 5" model!

@autozavod Thanks for that, I was using a £30 spy pen camera - easy to tape to various places, but aiming is a bit tricky, as there's no view finder. I don't think it liked being vibrated, heated and steamed, though, and it's died.
3 1/2" is easier to move, but running pipework can get a bit crowded. Have fun!

Do you find your Maisie easy to fire? I find that, with my 3.5" Maisie, the firing is a breeze because of the huge (for a 3.5" engine) firebox. I have been told that LBSC Maisie's have a larger firebox than a 5" gauge Simplex!

@EastwoodBirds Yes, it's a breeze, isn't it? Seems to run perfectly well with a thin fire or a thick one, and the pump delivers slightly more water than it needs if left in full gear. It's always my choice for giving steam engine operating lessons to new people.
