Yogananda completely misses Jesus' intention when he said "Eli, Eli, why has thou forsaken me?" Matthew 27:45 Jesus' intention was to complete all the prophecies that were made about the messiah in the old testament, and to show that he, Jesus, had fulfilled all of them. It was common practice when rabbi's were discussing the Bible, they would quote the first line of a well known scripture only. In this case the first line of the 22nd Psalm was "Eli, Eli, why has thou forsaken me."
Yogananda, being unfamiliar both with this tradition and the 22nd Psalm, comes up with an alternative interpretation, that is unsupported by the facts surrounding the crucifixion. His interpretation is in his book 'The second coming of Christ', Discourse 74, pages 1483 - 1487. While these are true statements, the application 0f these statements to the reality of the crucifixion, and Jesus' desire to make his life match the predictions of the old testament come true in his life, completely miss the facts. Jesus' last statement 'It is finished' completely matches the interpretation of the 22nd Psalm being what was meant, as this was the last set of prophecies that had to be fulfilled.
This error does not detract from Yogananda's stature as a spiritual giant. In fact, if you read his explanation for Jesus' statement, it could apply equally well to Yogananda himself, as he demonstrates his human side.

  • Realization is an experience, you are right. It may come and go but that does not diminish its genuineness. The best way I have found when encountering oneself and others is to see/feel/touch the holy spirit within and consider the dross as not so important as that holy spirit. All mistakes can be eliminated in the breath of the spirit. Of course, action in the body must coordinate with accepted moral laws.

  • @itisitsits When action in the body is coordinated with the higher spiritual truths, there is the appearance of miracles, the expression of the higher truths. The miracles of the SoHam Mantra, which I have made a video of (Soham Mantra Law of Attraction Prosperity) are just such expressions of the breath as the Holy Spirit. With its use, you can see the divinity in everyday things, and in your thoughts and feelings. That is the greatest miracle.

  • @michaelcweir Indeed, you are right, living the miracle through being present with the holy spirit as it lives in the body.

  • He also made the mistake, about the 2nd coming of jesus!
