Helicopter Noise - after Midnight May 25, 2009

Created on May 25, 2009. HPD helicopters are taking off & landing from 1400 Lubbock Street [Municipal Courts building] as part of SWAT and Homeland Security exercises. Multiple helicopter flights are done every night in the wee hours during this training operation. Helicopters hover over the nearby Eleanor Tinsley Park, between Memorial Drive and Allen Parkway. Trainees descend rope ladders from the helicopter[s], in training for urban warfare exercises. Helicopters also hover over the landing pad at Municipal Courts building.

While it may be argued that these training exercises are necessary, even deaf residents of historic neighborhoods are disturbed from deep sleep due to the loud noise from the helicopter blades.

We are petitioning Captain Holloway of Houston Police Department Central Patrol to re-route the flights over waterways or major highways and thoroughfares, and to request the pilots fly at higher elevations, to decrease the noise impact on residential neighborhoods.

HPD FOX Unit does this city a great service. While you may lose a little sleep here or there, these same officers flying these under budgeted helicopters keep you safe. We need to make sure the helicopters and the fine officers flying them keep trained and properly funded. Buy your self a scanner and listen to all the thugs these guys catch. Not to mention the lives they save! Thanks FOX!

Maybe you can also petition the police and fire dept.'s to turn off their sirens after 7:00 PM, the nasty sounds of peoples lives being saved can be really annoying. Welcome the civilization.

Did you ever think that these officers flying at night need to practice their skills to keep you safe? These same officers that work at night sleep during the day when there is a surprising amount of noise from construction, people mowing their lawns, delivery persons, and on, and on. I don't see any videos from these officers who work at night and sleep during the day. So Blah Blah Blah, you can't sleep because of a little noise.

Stop complaining and suck it up, buttercup !!!

If you want your ass saved by helicopter come "big emergency time, you need to let people train for it, both in the dark and light.

Quit your bitching, cause you'll be the first one to wonder where the helicopter's at to pull your sorry ass out of a bad situation.
