Bangladesh's capital Dhaka, home to some 11million people, is facing a severe environmental crisis.
It's been named the second dirtiest city in the world, after Baku in Azerbaijan.
Toxic waste and pollution is rife, posing a major threat to public health.
Al Jazeera's Hannah Belcher travelled to Dhaka, to see the scale of the problem.
Wat da hell!!hw on earth m i gonna b alive ova there, when m about 2 go down there widin a month!!!God save me..:)

@solynawaz To say it's the fault of "poor village peoples" is highly incorrect.Think about the thouands of high net worth firms in the private sector creating pollution and environmental degradation, which in turn have attracted people from outside for jobs. Also the wealthier are buying more cars and building homes creating a concrete jungle.

Dhaka wasn't as this 15 to 20 years ago. Due to over flood of poor village peoples it's lost all charm. In near future u can't even walk there. It's jam pack and dirtiest place in world.

I hate how at 1.57 they say 'Dhaka is almost beyond help'. Since this was posted in 2008 many areas of Dhaka have alreday improved and some look more beautiful than where I live (Surrey, UK). It just needs really really hard work and lots of it, but the problem won't ever be eradicated but can be improved.

I just watched this video after watching "Singapore: Worlds Cleanest Country". Its amazing how some nations make the right choices. Some don't.

we are now poor, dirty comparing to the developed countries but that doesn't mean we will remain so forever. We can't clean dhaka right now as it'll be dirty again because we are going through industrialization and now we are only giving our damn to economic stability,we don't have time think about environment..after 10-15 years we can clean everything...

I just got back from Dhaka on a week long fishing trip. Using ice cubes for bait we managed to snag a skinny cow. I had it mounted when I got back to the States.
