  • where's the fear??? it's just an engine reverse

  • Nice vid. I'm sure lots of people who don't know what's happening would get a fright from the engines 'falling apart' and throttling up!

  • @rankin383 I love the MD-80s, too, but the airframe design has idiosyncrasies: The engines in back require a longer nose to balance it out, which requires extra stiffening weight, then the T-tail tends to be prone to deep-stall at low speeds (prototypes BAC One-Eleven and Tu-134 crashed on the same day during test flights from this) and the trim jackscrew acme nuts all tend to be maintenance-heavy. Aside from all that, the MD-80 is a joy to fly on. Similar: DC-9, VC10, 727, Tu-134/154, Yak-40

  • wow I had no idea that's how engines went into reverse, I used to think that the turbine fans started rotating in reverse :D

  • MD-80 is a classic luv the blast

  • I guess all we can hope for is that a few will fly on as-is. Nobody cares about the old t-tails as a flying legend.

  • i love md80's. i wish they would put new engines new cockpit instruments and a new interior to make it flight for couple more years.
