West Midlands PTE's 5553 - an ex Midland Red BMMO S17 type - is seen climbing one of Dudley's many hills.

Video originally taken in 1976, just over 2 years after West Midlands PTE paid over £4 million to Midland Red to quit the area and hand over the routes plus over 400 buses to West Midlands PTE.

  • Though further to my first comment the bus is fairly belting back down the hill. come on driver people did not speed in 1976 !

  • Look at the cars keeping perfect distance behind the bus. Road rage had not been invented.

  • I was much more used to seeing the S17 in its proper MIDLAND RED colours. Thankfully there are a few of these fine buses in preservation.

  • Portway Hill (Rowley Regis)

  • was the leyland national being driven by stirling moss?
