I agree with you WingsOfDedalus. I'm not a liberal nor a conservative, not a democrat nor a republican. I'm an Iranian and I wish Bush was in power now. I say that from the bottom of my heart. I wish Obama had the guts to be tough on this terrorist regime of Iran. Obama called this regime legitimate and sovereign. It's ridiculous to say the least.

Well, if you can't even see the results decades in hindsight, you are truly blind. Virtually all attempts to use peaceful protest against an armed dictatorship have resulted in failure. You are just another cruel liberal. You spout the words freedom and democracy but will never sacrifice anything substantial to help them. Appealing to the better natures of dictators is futile. Only force can bring change. Only men like Reagan or Bush can bring change. Stick to your kool-aid.

Obama doesn't have it right. You haven't studied U.S. history. When the U.S. embassy was taken hostage, President Carter utterly failed. Carter was a liberal like Obama, a "Washington Outsider". Carter tried to end the situation was with an air rescue operation named operation desert claw. The aircraft crashed and the operation was aborted. When Reagan became president, the hostages were released on the first day of his term. The Iranians knew that Reagan was no weakling like Carter or Obama.

Unfortunately, the U.S. is run by liberals. The liberals are cowards who only talk about freedom and democracy. When it comes to actually sacrificing something for freedom and democracy, they will fight tooth and nail to undermine any such efforts. All the U.S. will do is perhaps condemn them. The U.N. will probably sanction and send an angry letter to Iran. It is utterly futile to hope for help from the U.S. with a liberal majority. Only a person like Bush or Reagan would have done something.

Nothing like a regime shooting unarmed innocent civilians to show how bad they truly are and why no one will negotiate with them over nukes when they cannot even treat their own people with dignity and respect for human laws, and I do not mean Shaaria law, I mean the rights of all men and women.
