I'm sympathetic to this man's situation but we cannot, as a nation, used anecdotal discussions to govern how or what laws are made. Two things need to be pointed out but never are in this debate. First of all, one should be very suspicious of people protesting voter ID requirements so loudly. They're doing it in order to enable fraud, pure and simple. Second, it's 2011 and you need legal photo ID for a lot. Step up to the plate and get it instead of asking everyone else to revolve around YOU.

These types of laws are so despicible. Even a child could understand the purpose of these laws is to keep certain groups of people from voting. Are the people who write these laws so cowardly that they can not call a spade a spade. The people who make the argument that the purpose of these laws is to prevent voter fraud are lying. States that pass these laws should just admit they don't believe in democracy. These lawmakers should be ashamed.

@wetweasel56 Someone isn't paying attention to the video!

@conchf....voter ID is not voter suppression. It is getting rid of voter fraud. You don't want to end voter fraud?
Don't lie now.

This is the exception and not the rule. We MUST end voter fraud and it is done by voter ID. There are very few people like Mr. Butler and my sympathies go out to him in this matter but we have to do this now. One day when all the Mr. Butlers have passed on we won't have this kind of problem to deal with and we won't have voter fraud either.
Dems don't like voter ID because illegals were voting Democrat and they are going to lose that vote.
Just speaking the truth, and the truth is what matters.

I've been involved in cases like this. In an attempt to prevent child molesters from changing their names, the name change and identity procedures for court were made much more demanding several years ago. Messed up old documents can really make the process difficult. You can't get copies unless you prove you are the person requesting them. You can't prove that without ID. There was also a tradition of passing children to couples who couldn't have children, without legal adoption.

It's not going to be as easy as the GOP thinks.
Weasel, nearly 200,000 SC voters have no current, state-issued photo ID. The governor keeps saying you need a photo ID to buy Sudafed or get on an airplane, so you should need one to vote. Sounds reasonable, but the airlines and pharmacies don't require a SC-specific photo ID, as this law does. This is the most restrictive form of the voter ID law in the country.
