How to make and sew a Cushion pillow Cover tutorial. Watch Meg Stone as she shows us how easy it is to make a throw pillow cushion cover using basic sewing skills. It's so easy to sew a cushion cover it's great for beginners!

What you will need to make a beautiful throw pillow cushion cover:

A new or old cushion
Fabric
Need
Thread
Sharp pair of scissors

00:45 Lay your fabric on a flat surface and place your cushion on top. Pull one side of the fabric over the cushion to see how much you will need. Cut the fabric length ways to size leaving an inch or two spare.

01:28 Turn your fabric inside out and fold over. Now stitch on 3 sides of your square or rectangular fabric.

02:19 with 3 sides sewn, fold your fabric inside out again so the stitch is on the inside. Stuff your cover with your cushion.

02:55 with your open, unstitched side, if you have excess fabric, fold the fabric in on itself tightly, hold with pins if necessary for giving it a final stitch along the side.

04:10 To create a similar effect on all 4 sides of your cushion, run another stitch along the oter 3 sides.

  • I throw the whole pillow into the washing machine! However, if you want a cover that's removable, you need to sew it slightly differently. Seam an edge all the way around the rectangle of fabric, then 'fold' it over the pillow, overlapping by 2 inches. sew the outside edges around the pillow but leave the 'overlap' unsewn. This way, the pillow will pop out when you need to wash the cover. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks and best wishes! Meg

  • Well done Meg, this is a friendly, yet very professional tutorial. What a lovely space you have to sit and enjoy the day. Cheers from Australia

  • Meg, you've totally inspired me! I'm looking to do cushion covers with some fabric I found on clearance and was just a little nervous to cut it. Not anymore! I love your website and your tutorials - you're the kind of home maker I want to be! Keep up the great work.
