One tool I have found that really makes it easy to reform the bevel or change the angle, is the 8" Grizzly wet-grinder (Tormek knock-off).

It takes very little time, never over-heats the edge, and leaves you with a very useable edge that needs no further honing. Really a super way to reform the bevel.

The WorkSharp 3000 is anohter great way to do this, but is much more money. The Grizzly is only $90, ready to go. Really a good deal.

  • @kenny474 I have a Makita 9820 that I sharpen my planer/ jointer knives on (I have videos). I use it reset shapes in chisels and plane irons also. The only tools I hollow grind are lathe knives I free hand on my 10" 1700rpm grinder with a very delicate touch. The only reason I ground knives on the belt sanders was to show people they could make what they have work for them.

  • What brand/model are the black chisels in the right front of the screen? I really like the looks of them. How well do you like them?

You have some good content here, really good!

Great job! Even though I've been doing this for over a decade now, and I have my own very well established methods of sharpening that work very, very well, I have picked up a few things after watching your videos a few times.

  • @kenny474 They are Bahco Ergo chisels that are 25 yrs old. They were ahead of their time and discontinued after a very short run. They are like stout little socket slicks. I had a panic attack while doing the sharpening series when I realized how short they were getting. So now I am tying to do a little research to buy a back up set so I can save them for when I really need them. Two Cherries is at the top of my list right now.

  • Hey nice pet you have there...:)

    Thanks for sharing!

  • One little bit of a tip, and this is just get get that final, super, super sharp refined edge after general honing: Try some diamond paste, about 0.5 micron, on 15,000 grit micro mesh adhered to either glass plate or your granite slab. It really refines the edge beyond what a stone can achieve.

As well, the micro mesh lasts a long, long time when used with the diamond paste like this. If the cutting slows, just add a touch of paste, that's it.
