That "ceaw" ("Ciau") is more used in the west of Romania and is not an actual Romanian world, although any Romanian will know what you're saying (Italian "Ciao"). For "Hello" you can say "Buna dimineata / ziua / seara" or "Salut" (also just "Buna", but this one is mostly used by girls). Also for "Goodbye" you can say "La revedere" or "Pa".
