Video footage taken from the Murphy N,C area. Hover autos is just one of those maneuvers that takes some time to get down. For some people it comes instantly, but for others it just take a lot more repetition to get things within PTS and personal standards.
Over the past 16 students the most common tendency is to get super tight on the controls and to initially pull up when rolling off the power. Remember, let the aircraft settle and then gently pull the collective up to cushion the landing. Another tendency is to let the aircraft settle/drift to the left due to not compensating for the lack of translating tendency.
Depending on the person's body structure, you might have some difficulties moving your cyclic arm too much due to losing the stability of your right leg as it is quickly pushed in to keep straight.
Keep your eyes outside, stay relaxed, and remember that for practice sake you know when you are going to roll the power off so you should know when to push in right pedal.
My instructor has rolled off the throttle quite rapidly to make it more relistic.I've only done a few sessions of this but its all good practice. We also done a few hover taxi ones too.
