Also, contrary to what people say, IT DOES MATTER where you place your subwoofer! The acoustic characteristics of the room play a HUGE part in this.
Not only that, but "satellite" plus subwoofer systems like this one often have to be crossover'ed in such a way that lower midrange and midbass frequencies come from the subwoofer.

First, placing left and right as wide as possible, WILL NOT automatically give you better sound. In fact, that will ruin your soundstage. The optimum distance you place them at, depends on how far you are away from them. CORRECTLY placed speakers, will often give you the illusion that you have surround sound, even though you don't. Not only will you hear the stereo effects, but things like movie dialog will sound like ti's coming from in front of you even though it isn't.

Only the uninformed haven't completely ditched speakers and went with really good quality headphones.
External speakers have gone the way of the zip drive in one of your other videos. No one uses them anymore. At least those that have a clue.
