Nick's Point Of View:
Mrs. Jonas -- Nicholas? Hurry down we are putting up the tree.
{I sigh and put my guitar off to the side. I had been working on my annual I hate the holidays song when I had been interrupted. I would rather not help with the tree but if I wasn't downstairs in a few seconds I would get a huge lecture. I leave my room and go downstairs just in time to see Kevin and Joe finish putting the lights on.}
Joe -- Hey Bro, you finally decided to show that pretty little face of yours.
{Joe laughs and pinches my cheek as if I am some child. I slap his hand away and glare at him.}
Nick -- Back off.
{I mutter under my breath and go to pick up a box of ornaments. Lucky me I picked up all the ones my mom had made each year of our family Christmas photo all festive and such. I looked into the sickingly sweet ornament from last year and had to refrain from throwing up my lunch.}
Kevin -- What's with you today?
Nick -- Nothing. Just a bit sick.
Joe -- No Nick just doesn't like the holiday spirit.
Nick -- shut up Joe.
Joe -- No you shut up!
{I roll my eyes at his immature come back. Sometimes I can't believe he's older than me. Joe pulls out the Santa hats and I duck when he tries to put one on me. Now it's really time for me to do.}
Nick -- I need to run to the store.
{I head for the door and hope no one tries to stop me. I hear mom say to pick up some eggnog and I nod slamming the door behind me. I walk over to my car which is covered in snow and try to brush enough off so I can see through the windshield. I get in the car and the cold leather feels even more freezing than outside.}
Nick -- Great.
{I start up the car and turn the heat on before backing out of the driveway and going to the nearest café. It was the only one I could go where I wouldn't be swarmed by fans. It was in a remote location that only valued customers knew about. I pulled into the parking lot and went into the small café.}
Addison -- What will it be today Nick?
Nick -- Just a coffee
{She nods and gets to work making my coffee.}
Nick -- so how's thing today Addi
Addison -- slow, which makes work easy enough. I thought you were trapped in holiday hell this week.
Nick -- I escaped.
{I wink at her and feel relieved that I'm finally around someone who isn't Christmas crazy. Addison was a very old friend. We had met maybe five or six years ago. She was more like a sister than anything else. Although I knew she had a small crush on me...but then again who doesn't}
Addison -- Here you go Jonas, nice and steaming hot. Just how you like it.
Nick -- thanks, Come sit with me?
Addison -- sure.
{We go to the table near the window. There can be some interesting people watching around this part of town. Quite a strange lot.}
Addison -- So you going to invite me over any time soon. I make a great buffer for all that family stuff.
Nick -- yeah you do.
{She was an amazing buffer when Mom and Dad were giving me hell for being the only one without a girlfriend at Kevin's wedding. Even Frankie has got himself a girlfriend. I've been having a dry spell lately but I don't really mind. I'm not interested in anything serious right now.}
Nick -- how about this Friday. Mom is throwing her Christmas party.
Addison -- sounds boring. Maybe we can just make an appearance and then sneak out to the mountains and hit the slopes.
Nick -- that late?
Addison -- sure, it's fun not being in control. You should try it sometime
Nick -- Yeah I'll take that into consideration.
{I finish my coffee and say goodbye to Addison. Still thinking about what she said about being out of control I got into my car and started driving home. The streets were quite so I decided to take her up on her offer. I push down on the gas and go speeding down the street. She was right, what a rush. I tilt my head back and let out a yell as I enjoyed the free feeling. My eyes go back to the road but it's to late.}
Nick -- NO!
{I swerve the car but I can't miss her. I slam right into a passing pedestrian and hear her rolling over the top of the car.}
