In a hurried attempt to frivolously market seal meat to the world, the Canadian Department of Fisheries and Oceans has pressured the Canadian Food Inspection Agency to recognize seals as fish. Why would they do something like that when everyone knows a seal is a mammal, not a fish? In order to cut corners and generate fast money, the DFO is strong-arming the CFIA to bypass many of the very inspections all other mammalian meats are subject to. This means that foodborne illnesses like trichinosis, bruccelosis and botulism are not even checked for.

One might think this isn't a problem if you cook the seal meat correctly, however, many seal oil pills that tout high Omega 3 fatty acids also boast that their products are manufactured by "cold pressing". Not one BTU of heat is applied to many seal oil pills prior to release to the public. This is tantamount to eating raw pork chops. Flack seed oil on the other hand has ten times the Omega 3's than does seal oil, and you don't have to expose yourself to these illnesses at all. Flackseed oil is, as the name alludes to, a plant product.

  • I know this is getting a bit much, but you are right about trichinosis.
