It appears as though you missed the point on what it was that Mackey was saying. Not that people of higher learning are better than everyone else. Instead that those who Take it on themselves to learn more of the world around them are more daring in life than those who sit idolly by and allow life to pass them by. It has been my common experience that this is the majority of civilization. That is the endless and futile addition of zeros that Mackey speaks of.
