Dr. Davidian OrthoExpress technique actually began in 1967 when he was graduated from Loma Linda University with a Master's degree in orthodontics.
His thesis won the Milo Helman First Research Award and was published in the American Journal of Orthodontics
Dr. Davidian's thesis research -- combined with the computerized Force Distribution modeling program that he also developed -- focused on two critical areas:
One, the center of rotation of a tooth under any scenario of force and torque applied at the crown;
And two, the resulting force of resistance at the apex of the root.
Addressing these factors in his practice, he came to realize some of the inherent challenges in orthodontics.
I came up with the idea of OrthoExpress because I saw patients who were very unhappy about having the braces on year after year after year. For that reason, I worked hard to do develop a solution what I now call OrthoExpress technique to get my patients finished in a reasonable length of time.
And through the process, I found that patient cooperation was much better if the patient could see progress and see an end to their treatment in sight.
The breakthrough came when Dr. Davidian developed new techniques for controlling the force at the apex of the root. That helped speed up treatment and minimize root resorption.
Patients now achieve full results in an average of 17 months or less months with the OrthoExpress technique. That's 40 percent less time than the reported average for the orthodontic profession as a whole.
Dr. Davidian has been able to achieve this with an average root resorption of less than one millimeter on the upper incisors -- about half of the average root resorption in the profession.
