This was Lydia and I on Valentine's Day 2007. Lydia was getting ready for an automatic self-timer shot, but she didn't know I had something else in mind and that I had put the camera on video mode. Man, I was so nervious. :)
Here's the whole story: Back when we were just friends, we talked about one day going to Paris together since basically ALL our friends in Barcelona had been except for us. Well for about a year that was our running joke. Well after we started dating for a while, I realized "Aight this is this girl for me!". Then it hit me, I know how I can propose...."A surprise day-trip on St Valentines Day to Paris"! Well thats what we did. But I was thinking the whole day, man everyone is going to be there on St. Valentine's Day proposing. I thought I was going to have to take a number or wait in line. But as you see in the video there was NO ONE, literally not one person around the Eiffel Tower, it was amazing.
Honestly, the whole thing was divinely planned from the "get-go", I can't take credit for everything. From the tickets, to the ring, to the video, it was absolutely amazing...It was a result of a few months of prayer coming together, that's really what it was.
First of all, we got a great low cost day flight from Barcelona (where we live) to Paris, leaving early in the morning and returning late at night.
Second of all, the ring is the most special. Lydia is Spanish by culture (even though she is half-American and half-Spanish). When you get engaged in Spain, many times there is not a diamond involved (yeah, sorry about that ladies) :), even though it's getting more and more popular of course. However, I wanted to get her something nice, but at the same time she didn't want me to "break the bank" on something (especially since its not her culture). SOOO, after praying about what to do, her American grandmother sent me and email THAT week and said, "Hey, I don't know if guys are at this step of your relationship or not, but I have my mother's engagement ring...As you know, I have 7 grandchildren and ONLY 1 is a girl...and that's Lydia...So I would like Lydia to have it". So as you could imagine, I was pumped bc I knew Lydia was going to love that ring more than ANY other diamond money can buy. How cool is that to have your great-grandmother's engagement ring from the early 1900's. Anyways, I put my investment into the ring as well. I changed the old band and got her more of a Spanish engagement band and then had the diamond set. After I turned the camera off and we began to look at it together I said to her, "You like it?". She said, "Oh yeah, I love it." Then I said, "Well, that diamond isn't just any diamond...it's what your great-grandfather gave your great-grandmother over 80 years ago!" Then the tears came down. So yeah, like I said, this day was just rediculously amazing. I don't write all this to brag, but rather as a testiment of how awesome God is in answering all these prayers. Just one amazing day. It turned out so good that you can't help but to say that I had nothing to do with it. :) Tre bien! Merci beaucoup. (or something like that). Enjoy!
