@sivadepilif: Aside from the TF-39As of the C5 Galaxy, you're right! Love the whistle heard from these, the Convair CV580s, and any other airplane equipped with these Allison Turbo-props!

I CAN'T believe that they didn't get this aircraft doing it's high performance take off. This thing can BLAST off like a fighter aircraft. VERY impressive.

Passei minha infância inteira acompanhando os vôos do saudoso Eletra, face eu morar na ZL de SP, aviões da rota de sentido norte, em especial a ponte aérea RIO/SP, costumavam ser observados diariamente por mim. O som dos seus motores era (é) inconfundível. Devido a precaria condição financeira, nunca pude "voar" neste mito, mas tenho a honra de te-lo como personagem importante dos melhores momentos de minha vida. Amo aviação e sou muito saudosista... o futuro não vive sem o passado.Amo Eletra

Unfortunately the early planes of this model had a design flaw and until it was discovered and the engine mounts were repaired about a hundred people died. It seems that stress damaged the nacelles and it weakened them and caused the wings to later come loose from vibrations, without much warning and the wing fell off. After the repairs they were beautiful aircraft. A relation to our family died in one of the early crashes.

I worked at EA for 21 years,I rode jump seat a few times on the L-188,It was one fine airplane.the crews loved them.
