We arrived in the soldier's mountain village before his body was returned to Rome. Lubriano villagers were in a state of shock over Giando's death. Their grief was unconsolable, yet they were kind and hospitable to us - the only two Americans in the village. The town is constructing a tomb for Giando's family. Soldiers die in wars and we are left to bury the dead.

  • In this attack the italian's folgore division paratroopers deaths are 6. Honor to Isaf soldiers.

  • Yes, Comagiaeasy, I am aware that six paratroopers were killed that day in Kabul. My focus was on Giando because I was in Lubriano, his village the weekend that Giando was killed. My country, American, dragged Italy into the war in Afghanistan and my heart bleeds for any Italian families who lose a son or daughter in America's war.

Thank you for the comment. I am aware that six Italian paratroopers were killed that day in Kabul. I focused on Giando because I was in Lubriano, his home village, the weekend Giando died. I think it is unfair that Italian soldiers are dying in America's war. I'm hoping to get back to Lubriano on September 17th to pay my respects to Giando on the 1st anniversary of his death.

  • I never liked the Americans for all bases that were built in Italy but when I see that you care about the fate of the Italian soldiers i like to know that you are not like your politicians

Thank you for your comment. I do care about Italian soldiers dying in America's war. It is unfair. America has far too many military bases in Italy and many other countries. America will learn, as did the Romans, there is is a steep price to pay for expansionism.

I have met one of your soldiers, his name undisclosed, but they are friendly and I am proud to be Italian. But i think our country can protect itself. GREETINGS FROM Beroceli, Italy.
