http://www.euronews.net/ In October, in front of the British Houses of Parliament, a group of protesters demanded a referendum on the United Kingdom's membership of the EU.
They were led by members of UKIP, a political party which wants to see Britain independent from Europe. However within the Commons, they were joined by 81 of David Cameron's own Conservative MPs, the largest rebellion against a Tory Prime Minister on this issue.
At the time, he said he understood that feelings ran high on this issue:
okay let me explain the sovereignty argument, the eu's new treaty, (which is very similar to the one they tried to past before, you know the one with all the referendums of NO) would give direct control over a countries finances , effectively controling them. I know when you elect a party in your country you dont get much say, but at least it matters a bit who you vote for. but with this it basically makes elections for your national goverment pointless.

I can sort of understand the financial argument, but I think that the whole 'sovereignty' thing is a buttload of sentimental and patriotic bullcrap.

we didnt fight 2 world wars, just to sign over our country sovereignty. but the main reason uk veto , coz eu wanted to cash in on Londons Finance economy by introducing some london city tax.The thing is UK cant afford to lose its finacial service control as it is such a huge part of the economy.

David Cameron was uncomfortable with the ambiguous terms and conditions. The EU is a Big Brother creation, they want member states to give up their freedom and sovereignty, so that crooked bankers can make decisions beyond your control that are not in your national interest.

It depends, if they want to be a part of the single market they still have to adopt the EU legislation on markets without having any say in making these rules, like Norway, if they dont care about that, they can enjoy absolute sovereignty. The consequences would be largely political, nothing very serious.

Why does the UK have to opt-out of everything? Wouldn't everything be better for everyone if they just had the Euro, and if they just were in Schengen, and if they would just join in on this new threaty? I really don't know what's up Cameron's ass.

So what would happen if they opt out the EU?
