  • Pretty sobering. How can anyone in today's world say they've truly had a bad day, ever?

  • They didnt force the civilians to commit suicide, they just scared them into believing the Americans would torture and rape them to death if they got a hold of them. Theres an old World At War video on YT called Okinawa that shows women running from GI's who are obviously trying to help them and then the women jump into a tidepool and drown. You can see it all if you look it up.

  • man the army and marines went through some shit.....

  • the raped of Japanese soldiers and Americans soldiers in Okinawa. Why did they silent about this?

  • @enythingispossible i understand your anger but do you expect no civilian casualties in war?

  • @corvettecrazy262 Maybe if the Army learned from the Marines in how to do amphibious landings-maybe you would have needed so many soldiers to invade if you woluld have ordered those ships to keep blastinmg at the German beaches in France. Not only would one be taken out the pill boxes throwing down murderous fire but just about most mines and obstacles. Okinawa and other Island campaigns saw the Japs abandon the beach heads using mountains and jungles to mount their defense.

  • @enythingispossible The other part of this is what should we have done in your misfortune of the eaqrthquakes and the Sunami's that damaged your country? Sometimes I think we forget it was a small time our countries were enemies in WW2 compared to the years before when we were allies.

  • @enythingispossible Pearl Harbor? How many died on the long march in the Philippines because they could not keep up. In the end of it all-there is always blame to go around. I would not blame America but what the Brits did to China. This got the samurai's to convince the shoguns to reunite-about the time of our civil war and believe they took a kill or be killed when it came to seeing western powers colonizing in the PAC RIM. To me, what can we learn of the past to be better in the future?

  • @Mumakil42 Really? My father in law was 16 during the battle. When it was obvious the Japanese were on the outs, he and his friend were given a grenade and told to kill themselves... When the soldiers weren't looking, they dropped it and ran away. Fucking idiots who know nothing of the Okinawan people or culture...

  • @enythingispossible two whole cities is nothing compared to what the fighting would have been on the home islands. they had to make a hard decision. millions of lifes wasted fighting jpana for 2 more years? or a couple atomic bombs?

  • @Mumakil42 Many were forced to commit suicide, and many of the ones who refused were killed by their own army!

  • @enythingispossible I am German American, and My grandfather died on the Russian front. But many times in Germany, old German men would shake my hand and thank me (representative of the americans) for getting rid of Hitler. That Atomic, horrible as it was...and it was horrible. Saved more Japanese lives than we can ever imagine. It stopped a horrible war. Quit being ashamed of America for that. Live your life in peace...God Bless you.
