Thanks for this video. I've been teaching African Dance for three years. I've been studying African dance since 1990. There's lots of mis-information floating around.
Thanks for this video.
This is a wonderful resource for my students, who things there is no technique involved in African dance.
Sabar is the name of the drums (Indigenous to Senegal), the dance and the street gathering where dancers and drummers meet. There are many different sabar rhythms and many dances to dance within each rhythm.
besides: The SABAR is a special stick drum from Senegal. And the Text of the narrator is so cold like the western teachers were all times - what do we know after this video: could you please give a brief statement ... It hurts
So, if I understood correctly, Sabar is not one single dance but the reunion itself, where they dance different dances. Is that so? I thought it was the name of the dance itself.
Well, we know that the dance almost died out after Independence! That's important because I assumed this was a continuing tradition.
And the instruction from the dance teacher on the proper stance for Lembeul is great information, too.
I love the way he breaks it down.
