  • "Republican" means we do not impose mob-rule through democracy. first there is a republic wherein there are individual rights which are protected. Personally, I think the government needs to stay out of our personal lives altogether.

WHY is this an issue? Marriage is a religious ceremony and government should NEVER have taken ANY role here.

  • Yes. I'm a Republican, but I consider myself part of the Ron Paul/Libertarian wing of the party.

  • thats sounds like libertarianism

  • And I have zero sympathy for gay and lesbian people that swallow the hogwash spewed out by the Democratic party. The Democrats have done next to nothing to advance gay and lesbian rights. I'll be the first to say the the Republican party has been even worse, but if you think the Democrats give a shit, you are sorely mistaken. We have to work on changing the Republican party. Obviously, we can't trust Democrats to take care of GLBT folks on their own.

  • Personal responsibility, individual liberty, free markets, and a strong defense, huh? Then you should be a Democrat. I have zero sympathy for gay and lesbian people who remain loyal to a party that is comitted to reducing thier rights as human beings. And I have zero respect for people who spout empty political rhetoric without even knowing what it means.

  • I share your point of view entirely. I don't know why more people can't uphold the the fundamental tenets of the Republican party while remaining oriented towards progress.

You said that the party does not want to end up on the wrong side of history - a very good point. The legalization of gay marriage is an inevitability, and history will paint its opponents as backwards, and the arguments against it as the lies and misconceptions they really are.

  • as a democrat, thank you for that...
