I had wanted to make a video for the 75th anniversary of Jeremy's birth on November 3. Several ideas went through my head, but the solution was literally dropped at my feet. I was rummaging in a closet when an old VHS tape fell to the floor. It had the 20th anniversary tribute to Masterpiece Theater on it, taped back in 1991. Imagine my surprise when I found footage from On Approval and an all-too-brief interview with Jeremy on it. Maybe some have seen it before, but it is new to me and, I suspect, to many others as well.

So dear Jeremy, ever generous, gives us a present on his birthday! lol

Happy Birthday, Jeremy--this is posted for you and your many admirers.

PS: The editing is a bit abrupt, but I got every last frame out of it that I could. The photos at the end are from an album of theme music--note the pic of JB from The Good Soldier!
PPS- Someone failed to remove the band from that cigar before lighting it--the bounder! XD

  • were there more to this? I hope so.

  • @Chynaash

This is all the footage from the tribute show. Yes, there's more to On Approval. It's a full-length production. It used to be here on youtube, and it may still be.

  • Thank you very much for sharing!

    Best regards from Spain

You're welcome! Nice to see fellow fans from Spain.

  • OMG...Jeremy Brett and Penelope Keith together!! And I have to disagree a little with the comment about his eyes looking sad/not responding. There is still a glint in them. But that he seems tired, yes. Thank you for this!

  • @kamwrites

    You're welcome!

  • "you swallow a secret smile".... That man was a poet, I tell you. He said the most beautiful things.

  • great little gem, thanks!

I do think his eyes look quite sad in the interview bits, even when he's smiling.

  • Phineas, that was a snippet from On Approval.

  • What was the name of the show in that last bit? The comedy one when they were talking about "what does a man know about any women"?

  • This is brilliant. Thanks for sharing.

  • @poppylv21 He indeed looks really sad in this clip... he barely smiles, his eyes don't respond, and it seems like an effort to be there...
