Before some FT/NASTI fans get more confused: what I am saying here is with respect to business economics-- with respect to businesses cost of goods-- there is no such thing as "embedded income taxes", only embedded wages, because the business CANNOT KNOW what amount of wages it pays is paid in by employees as income taxes, because some employees will get a refund and yet others will have to pay more in. What is important to the business is WAGES PAID, that is their known cost.
@dtvgmedia There is no such thing as embedded inc. taxes, because people pay income taxes in at different rates-- while one person is paying an effective rate of 4%, another at the same company could be paying 30%.. There ARE embedded wages in the costs of goods, and INDIVIDUALS pay their inc. taxes from those wages at different rates. Otherwise, if you claim embedded income taxes DO exist, then the argument that illegals don't pay taxes now goes out the window if prices would stay the same.
@HumbleWillis Since they already pay the cost of income taxes embedded in the loaf of bread, there is still no difference when we switch to the fairtax.
There is a difference though. The difference has less to do with who directly pays it, and more to do with reduced economic output.
same as tea party shites - rich assholes wants the poor people pay their taxes - and recruit these toads to promote it - Well anything is apparently possible in America. But go for it the sooner you do it the sooner we will see the new American revolution.
Think this through to see why the "embedded taxes" argument is false-- if one considers TAXES as embedded in the price item (rather than seeing them as something paid at DIFFERENT RATES by workers from emb. WAGES), If you state prices with tax will basically not rise because of "emb. taxes" removal-- thus your takehome pay stays the SAME as now--how are "illegals" paying taxes? Your check is the same, items cost same.
Answer: YOU are still paying, and MORE, by your paycheck staying the same.
@cktransue Lol, 100 economists. No, I do have the facts straight, and anyone who denies that it would raise the avg. effective federal taxes of the middleclasses and lower the avg. effective federal taxes of the wealthy does not have a clue. Again, go to the link -- tinyurl 593htl -- which is research at Americans For Fair Taxation's own site, and read page 30 on, which is"Households’ Well-Being under the FairTax". Read it, and understand it, paying attention to Table 13, years 7-8 and 15-16.
Hey, 1969was1969 - you don't have your facts straight, and apparently you don't know that the FT has been endorsed by well over 100 economists across the nation. I'm no expert, but I would LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE to see how you respond when faced with someone who IS an expert on the FT. You're definitely NOT one.
Again, there is no debate if one accepts Fair Tax org's own research-- under this horrible tax, those making from $15,000 to $150,000 a year would on average pay more federal taxes than they do now, and those making more than $150,000 would pay less. See tinyurl 593htl, page 30 on, particularly Table 13 years 7-8 and 15-16 to see the egregious fudging they do to try and make it seem that the middleclasses would be better off paying more in taxes. Also see Table 5 to see who reaps the rewards.
Fans of the "Fair" Tax aka National Sales Tax Inclusive aka NASTI seem to again be overestimating what current total effective federal taxes people pay . The bottome four wuintiles (80% of taxpayers) currently pay average TOTAL effective federal taxes (includes income tax, FICA, and apportioned corporate and excise taxes) of about 4% to 17%. Look it up at CBO site.
