DVDs of this video are now available at http://www.genderidentityproject.org . Transgender Basics is a 20 minute educational film on the concepts of gender and transgender people. Two providers from the Center's Gender Identity Project (GIP) discuss basic concepts of gender, sexual orientation, identity and gender roles. Three transgender community members share their personal experiences of being trans and genderqueer. The film targets service providers and others working with the LGBT community, but it also provides a fascinating glimpse into gender and identity for the general public. "Our culture likes to make things simple, and gender isn't." Carrie Davis, Transgender Community Organizer, in Transgender Basics. For more information contact the Gender Identity Project at 212-620-7310 or at http://www.genderidentityproject.org .

  • You all rock!!! Great video :)

  • @PITTdylanCREW I'm so sorry you're going through that with your parents! I hope they come around. Know that I and many others support you and applaud your courage for coming out.

  • excellent video.....congrats....

  • psychology class.

  • Awesome. If anyone asks me what my gender is, I'm just going to say my name.

  • Once again, we have another video that makes the distinction between "sex" and "gender" and then proceeds to confuse sex and gender, and confirm the sterotypes that infringe transsexual and intersex rights. Indeed, the "trans-man" is a FTM transsexual, yet is labelled "transgender". A transsexual is changing his/her sex, to the extent medically and economically feasible, not their gender.

  • I just attended a LGBTQ Civil Rights training as a City of Seattle Employee and they showed this video as a part of the training. I think that this is a wonderful explanation of gender and sexuality and thank you so much for making it. It helped a lot of people in the training understand how to look past the heteronormative and even relate in how they break from the traditional roles and expressions. It was awesome to see that reaction.

  • I wanted to say that this video is fantastic and who made it really understands what transgender is all about. I am a member of a support site for transgender people and understand what they go though. I'm MTF myself. I would really like to see this video get around. It accurately explains what it is like to be transgender and can educate others who are ignorant and want to learn.

Well done! This video needs to be available to all who are struggling with it.

    Thank You!
