As recommended in 'Doctor Who Magazine' issue 435, this is a personal tribute to Lis Sladen who passed away so tragically young last year. When Elisabeth died it affected me more than I could ever have anticipated. A childhood hero, still loved today by a new generation of viewers, her Sarah Jane was the definitive Doctor Who companion - loved every bit as much today as she was 38 years ago. And to mark my heartfelt respects to someone who meant so very much to me as a little boy, I've left Elisabeth to voice the tribute in her own words: A touching, poignant and philosophical reflection on loss, sorrow and joy. Goodbye Sarah Jane.

  • I hope, that whatever afterlife Lis Sladen believed in, she is with Jon Pertwee, Nicholas Courtney, and Ian Marter. The Third Doctor, The Brigadier, Harry Sullivan and Sarah Jane Smith, together forever, hopefully, traveling the stars, for real.

  • The best companion the Doctor ever had. I will never forget you my Sarah Jane. The day she died was my birthday. I woke up, was told the news and cried and I'm still crying now. My name is Sarah and I'm proud of Elizabeth Sladen because she gave my name a great meaning. We should celebrate her life. She devoted her life to the Doctor. Every birthday I have now I will watch an episode of Doctor Who with her in or an episode of Sarah Jane adventures.

    R.I.P our Sarah Jane

    Sleep well Elizabeth

  • "Goodbye... My Sarah Jane!"

  • Just came across this memorial to Elizabeth Sladen, and watched it ,did not suspect that by the end of it my tears were flowing. So well done,a fitting tribute to a wonderful actress.RIP

  • Thanks! I needed a good cry.

  • Brilliant tribute. Extremely effective and made me cry. Loved her to bits.

  • Liz was a superb character and will always be treasured in our hearts, as will all the who cast gone but never forgotten. She was the nations favourite companion and it's sad that she could never see just how loved she really was...

  • 1:55 makes me cry all the time

  • I love this tribute I just think Bablcolour just needs to add Matt Smith in somewhere That's all.

  • Yes, Barry Letts chose well with Lis Sladen. And Barry knew he had found something very, very special for the WHO world in Lis.

Watching the DVD's of PLANET OF THE SPIDERS and ROBOT back-to-back shows just how much confidence Barry had in Lis. Lis is the only cast member to appear in all 10 episodes of both stories. The stories both revolve around "Sarah".

Sarah is the central character in the POTS Part 6 regeneration scene. It was Lis who carried & anchored WHO from Pertwee to Baker.

  • @coltperc yup hey maybe u should subscribe to my channel because I have a new segment for my show and it's all about Doctor Who

  • @DoctorWho50th VERY true. We tend to forget that it was Barry Letts who chose both Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen. The solid foundation that the amazing Hinchcliffe-Holmes era stood on was established by the great Letts-Dicks production team.

In one late 90's interview, Lis said she thought she had also based some of Sarah's character on Barry Letts himself.

However, I DO doubt SJS would have become the phenomenal WHO character she was with any actress except Lis Sladen.
