Dec 15, 2011, Hazelton BC - Local resident Vince Lawrence is a recently retired supervisor at Enbridge, who oversaw pipeline crews of 300 to 1,500 people and duties included immediate reaction to oil spills. Then we should continue to have oil be transported by tractor trailel and by train. Because those never spill.

I applaud this gentleman for stating his position so publicly, but as someone deeply concerned about the environment, I worry that the alternatives to pipelines are worse.

@KirstinMo If you knew the terrain and amazingly sensitive eco systems that the proposed pipe goes through, you'd understand his opposition. There is a TON of concern over the route, that it goes through nearly impassible terrain subject to rock and mud slides, and the headwaters of some of the biggest water systems in canada/ the world. He was a guide outfitter in the territory and knows it well, as do the Gitxsan, and a pipeline is actually the worst option.

@jpierre329 Think about this government's military spending, the G20's calculated police action, building super prisons and instituting mandatory minimum sentences, the unquestioned support of the Tar Sands and the corporate agenda, fixation on a socially conservative "Ideal Canadian Family" that demographically isn't the norm, demonization of all opposing points of view and complete contempt for parliamentary democracy.

This regime is more interested in corporate rights than human rights

Glorification of the military and justifying the use of force in society.

Empowering the economic elite while disenfranchising the lower class.

Of course, what I've found is that beliefs (based on nothing substantial) keep them in ignorance, bliss and comfort. There are several attributes of this government that makes it obvious that it is FASCIST, beginning with the Canada First Defence[sic]Strategy(read it?), multiple and continuing instances of human rights violations here and abroad.
