Ballistic gel test of the .40 S&W Federal HST 180 gr JHP, using a diluted form of SIM-TEST Ballistic Testing Media. This format is comparable to calibrated ballistic gel, and includes four layers of denim. Video includes brief overview of the cartridge, recoil shots, and one shot test. Post-shot evaluation shows bullet path through the block, average diameter, retained weight, and various close-up views of the bullet. Test gun was a Glock 23, 4" barrel.

VERY IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING AMMO TESTS ON THIS CHANNEL:

Please understand that these techniques are merely representations to indicate possible ballistics; they are not intended to replicate real-world street results. Even by adding bone, additional clothing, etc., there are just too many factors involved in a self-defense scenario to offer a 100% degree of accuracy when compared to street results. It is essential to perform exhaustive research on your carry choice, which could yield actual use data. The law-abiding citizen bears ultimate responsibility for their ammunition choice and insuring reliability in their handgun.

I did contact Federal about this. You are correct. It is FBI overrun ammo, according to Bernie Ness, the VP of Sales for ATK (federals parent company)

  • @bradleywalters1

    Thanks for confirming!

  • @bradleywalters1 @tnoutdoors9 It can't be FBI overrun ammo. The FBI has a contract with Winchester, and Winchester supplies all of their ammo. They are currently issuing a 180 gr. Ranger Bonded bullet.

(I guess it technically COULD be FBI overrun, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense in this context. I guess they could be unhappy with the current duty load, but they sure as hell ordered way more than they need for testing; I've fired nearly 1,000 rounds of this stuff in the last two years)

  • @bradleywalters1 the people I bought them from are at all the local gun shows usually have some great deals there is another dealer that usually has all kinds of odd ammo that's hard to find too got some Winchester SXT from them too haven't seen that in a while they have had Black Talons a few times too wanted crazy money though there is a gun around here that used to own a gun shop that has a lot of Black Talons from what I have heard too buddy got a box of .45acp think he paid $50 for them

  • @bradleywalters1 yes on the back of the boxes above the upc it is marked Q4369. Seemed like a great deal getting boxes of 50 at $15 for 180 grain Bonded JHP don't know for sure if it really is an overrun but makes sense to me when I was told that looks just like my other bonded Winchester ammo except that it isn't nickle plated but the box of 135 grain Rangers I have are not plated either and I don't think they are bonded saw them at a show for like 22 bought them without inspecting the rounds

  • @JesseLJohnson

    Winchester Q4369?

  • TNOutdoors9 ---

According to Bernie Ness, VP of Product Development at ATK Industries (parent company of both Speer and Federal), the XM40HC round is in fact FBI/DEA overrun ammo. It is identical in ballistics (energy/velocity), primers used, and powder used to the P40HST1. Only difference is that it's brass-cased, as specified by the Dept. of Justice (to save $). So, feel confident on stocking up on this inexpensive, yet awesome ammo!

  • I have a case of Winchester ammo in a white box similar at the gun show was told it was surplus LE ammo looks just like the T-series just not nickle plated I paid $15 per box no tax 180 grain BJHP

  • Because I didn't know what type of HST ammo they were. Guess it scared me a little but he only was asking $20 a box! Dang I'm gonna have to go back and get a couple boxes. If he still has them. I've been looking everywhere around my area for the federal HST and no one hardly carries them or there out of stock. Seeing how that bullets did I can get over it having the brass casing instead of the nickle one!

  • Dang it, Dang it, Dang it!!!! I just went to a local pawn shop around my area that everyone kept telling me, "if your into guns you gotta go there" they had all kinds of guns from new to used, also all kinds of ammo. So I picked up some Speer gold dots and asked if they had any HST and the guy was like no we don't, but another worker heard me and said wait I think we do and he brings out that same 50rd box you had there with the same model number. I looked at them and opted for the gold dot bec
