Part One of my humorous observations about the history of the 1971 Public Broadcasting Service bumper logo, the composer of the Moog synthesizer jingle, which might have been called "PBS Network Theme," why I think this I.D. would still be effective today, and background information about a television special that covered the making of the bumper symbol logo. The only change that would have to be made would be to add a text graphic at the bottom of the screen of their Web address; http://www.pbs.org. The period on the end is not part of the address, to clear up any confusion. Recorded in late June 2007.

I made this video to look like a documentary program under half an hour produced for PBS.

  • The show that you watched is on Back on TV

  • Yes, but they have altered it terribly!

  • Talking about logos in real life? That's kinda rare!

  • Still interesting though, wasn't it?

  • I'm surprised anyone remembers this logo. Seeing it on Youtube brought it all back. I never thought it was creepy. The color and synchronized, synthesized sound fascinated me. I love this logo.

  • I saw the Media Probes video about the PBS logo

  • I wonder who's got the version of the logo set to the 1985 Lionel Richie #1 hit song "Say You, Say Me"?

  • Notes to the memory of PBS 1989 ID:

    1. The animation was designed by Pixar in the mid-late 80s.

    2. The P-head was designed in the 60s with the B & S .

    3. The music was recorded in the mid-late 80s, note also in "The Little Mermaid".

  • People like this are what make the world great

  • Heck, I was still watching Sesame Street at that time. lol

  • PBS i was born in 1996 the P pals they don't give me nightmares and they sing good

  • My college music teacher WROTE that jingle.

And the scariest logo ever was the one for the old Felix the Cat cartoon. It was this electronic tast patterny thing, and the jingle was this series of risoing beeps that sounded like some alien brainware analizing machine warming up.

  • I guess if you're like me and the owner of the video...you'd be afraid too lol

  • its not even scary WTF
