Ninja Cowboy Bear vs. Boracay Dragons, Universe Point. http://china-ultimate.blogspot.com/2009/11/controversial-finish-to-no-4-vs-no...

NOTE: I don't mean to pass judgment on what really happened except to say that things look, well, *suspicious*. I will say that Ninja Cowboy Bear probably should have been more proactive in initiating communication after the call was made.

A third possibility that seems fair and reasonable to all parties: there was a foul, but it was committed AFTER the catch. Everyone returns to where they were, but the disc remains with Tak (the Ninja player who jumped for and caught the disc), i.e. doesn't go back to the thrower.

Communication is the key.

  • I agree with the the call and all. I was there when it all happened. Infact I was the TD of the tournament. As much as I agree that there was no foul on the play, NCB didn't make the call right away during the game and only brought it up 30 minutes afterwards with me. I believe that they should have made a call the moment that it happened. Anyways past is past and I am looking forward to seeing NCB and Dragons play better this year with better SPIRIT! Good luck to both teams this year in SPIRITS

  • White got the disc before his follow-through contacted with her. There is no foul in that. Blue had a bad read and allowed white to have gotten the disc before it reaches her position. Bad sportsman ship for calling it after the point instead of right after the "foul" occurred. I guess she regretted about that call too, hasn't met an Ultimate player who's proud of winning games by making bad calls.

  • Love going to Spirits, love visiting Boracay and hanging out with the Boracay folks off the field, but ever since I played against them for the first time 5 or 6 years ago, their spirit and honestly have been questionable. I've seen the worst bogus fouls called by them, including by some of the "old school" leaders of the team. In the video, the girl didn't stop after the play, nor even hesitate, and neither did her teammates.

  • By the way, good job shooting the video and thanks for posting it. I'd been quite curious to see what really happened!

  • True enough - I agree that a call should have (and maybe even was) made, but the player should have stopped playing and made sure everyone around her understood she was trying to make a call.

  • And whether or not anyone heard a call being made... it would be unusual for a player to get knocked down like that and not make a call!

  • A foul call would be fair here. Boracay player has position, jumps straight up, and gets knocked down by Cowboy player who collides into her. Also an injury call is possible, as she is limping after she gets up... so I venture to say that Boracay has a legitimate case here.

  • That lady from Boracay Dragons I believe is Jen.

For a filipino ultimate player, this is just so shameful to watch. :(

  • NCB win spirit points. Dragons win boo points.
