This talk is about the HAM DNA Project and what the DNA tells us about the ancestry of the Ashe County, NC HAM lines. Shows the use of some DNA genealogy tools, FTDNATip, Dean McGee's Y-DNA Utility, PHYLIP, phylogenetic charts, and an ancestral Y-Search study. Also includes three DNA success stories using genetics.

I have the surname of Church and am told some of my family live in jefferson county, I am from Canada, I have had dna, if other Church family members of the family in NC would have test, please let me know, Jim Church
I have a partner who have his surname as HAM. I read that HAM seems to be from a place in north France which you've introduce. but my partner is asian. theres a war in cambodia n his family move to France. in the start i though he might be related to a rare chinese surname as Han.
Hello VGB, Well, your partner is welcome to test for the DNA. The HAM surname that I study here is of Celtic origin. It can also be found in northern Scotland (near Dunnet), and at various locations in England and France. I have a post about the HAM surname origins in the DNA section at HAM Country.
You can find out more about it in our book.
It is also an Asian name, completely unrelated to the Celts. The Y-DNA would indicate whether or not your partner would be of Asian origin.
My mother's maiden name was Ham. We have traced our roots back to JEROME /HAM/ SR, abt. 1577_Bristol, Gloustershire, England. If anyone has any information on this line please contact me. Thank you
