  • I'm a roofing contractor in Portland, OR. This is one of the best videos on the subject of ventilation.

  • Engaging. I will love to look at additional films like this one.

  • WoW, superB quality and helpful. Thanks!

  • Where do I get it. I live in Australia

  • I replaced 60 sheets of plywood on a roof last monht because a roofer used ridge vent, when the soffits did not have enough air flow, A home inspector failed the roof for mold in the attic the house was only seven years old. Ice shield at the edges of the roof also cut down on intake because it blocked the gap above gutter. the old fasion roof louver never require this much intake ventilation and never had problems. so dont buy that ridge vent because your neighbor has it.

  • If you do not have great soffit venting or your insulation blocks your eaves/soffit do not buy ridgevent, roof vents, louvers, have been around longer then your grand father, and do not require as much intake.

  • Oddly enough, my three-year-old LOVES this video and has requested it several times the last couple of days. Who needs Sesame street?

  • nrgsaver: hot air rises, it won't go down unless there is no escape. Even if there is no wind at all, the air should escape from the ridge vent.

  • Go with Cobra Ridge vent 3

  • Ridge vents, as can be seen in this video with the wind blowing 25mph, are very effecive. This is fortunate for those living near the sea where the wind blows all day but what about those living in areas inland where there is little to no wind? In this scenario, the attic just cooks because hot air to escape must go down, fight gravity and a more dense fluid (cooler air) to get out. Notice there is no video of the smoke test with no wind.

The "non clogging filter" is sketchy too.
