shangpush, I can give excripts from a paper I wrote on the Hydrus if you like. I am probably the only one who has the complete story on the Hydrus and it still keeps getting bigger. Give me a PM and I will send it to you. Jared

@shangpush Well thats very interesting. I have gathered as much infromation regarding the Hydrus as I could. I do remember seeing your grandfathers name on my crew list. I have searched long and hard for the Hydrus for the last 3 years. I have multiple paintings of her. The Hydrus I suspect, disappeared south of Thunder Bay. A ship claimed to have seen the Hydrus in the area and watch her lights disappear after being hit by a rogue wave. I would love to hear the contents of those letters!

@bobnixden Hello-- My grandfather, Calvin Hatch, was Chief Engineer aboard the Hydrus. Neither his remains nor the remains of the boat have found. I have a stack of letters written aboard ship and sent home to my grandmother in Port Huron. My mother was born about 10 days after Calvin drowned. Since she died in 1999, I have a painting he made of the Hydrus above my writing desk. I hope you can share any information you might have as the 100th anniversary nears. Thanks.

@dillonsacra What a coincidence! I just now Googled the Hydrus to see if its whereabouts had yet been discovered. I see you posted just 44 minutes ago. My grandfather, Calvin Hatch, was the engineer on the Hydrus. He died about 10 days before my mother was born. A painting he made of the Hydrus has been above the desk I am writing from since she died in 1999. With the storm's 100th anniversary approaching, I hope you can respond to me if you have information. Thanks.

*Busted and scattered showing she hit bottom hard. My friend is looking for the Hydrus in northern Lake Huron.

One of the most haunting images stuck in my mind was the Argus. I dove her a few years ago and she lies upside down in 230" of water. Her rudder is bent at a 90 degree angle with no blades and a large crumple amidships, showing that she got caught between two large waves and snapped her. Her stern is bus.t

I grew up on the lower St. Clair River. Somtimes, while standing on the shore or my parents dock, especially around this time of year, It almost brings a tear to my eye when I think of ships like the D.J Morrel and the Charles S. Price that were upbound in the river like many ships I have watched in my lifetime, unknowing that a few short miles farther north, the storms were brewing and ready to unleash all their horrors.

@RFKFANTS67I believe the only ones still lost in Huron are Carruthers and the Hydrus. I think thier is one more in Superior as well.

I live 5 minutes from lake Huron. Does anyone know, which ships lost during the 1913 storm on Lake Huron have not been found? I know they found the WEXFORD between my town and Goderich, but that's the only one I'm aware of.

@slipknotv2 The Edmund Fitzgerald sank in 1975. All the ships in this video went down in the 1913 storm.
