Recording from the 2009 Western Massachusetts Sacred Harp Singing Convention.

Images from the 1860 edition of the Sacred Harp, available online from the Library of Congress.

From www.FaSoLa.org:

Tune: Jacob French, 1786
Words: Holy Bible: Revelation 7:9, 4:8b, 8:13, 11:15a, 6:15-17
Meter: Prose

I beheld, and lo a great multitude,
Which no man could number:
Thousands and thousands, and ten times thousands
Stood before the Lamb,
And they had palms in their hands,

And they cease not day nor night, saying,
Holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,
Which was, and is, and is to come,

And I heard a mighty angel
Flying through the midst of heavn,
Crying with a loud voice:
Woe, woe, woe
Be unto the earth by reason of the trumpet
Which is yet to sound.

And when the last trumpet sounded,

The great men and nobles, rich men and poor,
Bond and free, gathered themselves together,
And cried to the rocks and mountains
To fall upon them and hide them from
The face of Him that sitteth on the throne;
For the great day of the Lord is come,
And who shall be able to stand?

  • beatiful song, but if you listen close ther is evidence of probably wrong placment of the recorder - one voice stands above the others its quite distrubing with the whole harmony of the song. Other than that good job

  • @Terysek84 You wouldn't believe how far away she actually was! I didn't have much choice with where to record.

  • What I wanted to write to Blue8Red6—but he closed his YouTube account!—I'll now have to post as if it were a new comment.

  • I can follow the bass and tenor, the alto is very clear (although often seems to be missing from the score) but I can't seem to hear the sopranos. Thank you for posting with the score. I am hoping to buy a copy in England. Am I right in thinking the tenor is sung an octave lower than printed on the treble clef? I haven't figured out what the shapes mean yet.

  • Thanks for posting this wonderful song. I'd like to sing it with my group, but I don't want to be the unpopular singer who suggested a 5 page song! lol. The scrolling pages is an awesome touch :)
