The tunes are Directions and Dr. Honoris Causa. In addition to Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Miroslav Vitous, Alphonse Mouzon and Dom Um Romao, the group is augmented by Alan Skidmore, John Surman and Eje Thelin. This was a one-off performance recorded September 3rd 1971 for Nordwestdeutscherundfunk, Hamburg, Germany.

I have read : just before this concert Alphonze Mouzon was fired because he had a strange comportment with the cuivre section .... That was "la goutte d' eau qui a fait déborder le vase" de ces "humeurs de merde" (JZ) qui "n'avait rien à voir avec la musique" (MV). Good tunes but a little strange weather here ..... :)

@mymoonjujumymen According to Brian Glasser, Mouzon was fired after the performance, not before. That's Zawinul's version, though, which differs markedly from Mouzon's testimony. What was the source of your quote?

middlebit, thanks for posting these clips (parts 1 - 4). Early Weather Report is by far my favorite period of their music. I would love to have a recording of this session. Too bad it's not readily available.

No problem at all! I never believed in imprisoning perfectly good music anyway. I'm not aware of any plans to release new material of Weather Report, but who knows, now that Joe is gone? So, I can't help you in your search, but may I suggest you get the free realplayer plugin so you can download these clips using internet explorer.
