best atempt at flying a solar balloon this is the fith balloon i have made this one is round and not square like the others and it defiyes the wind better than the others but still catches the wind a bit and only the second time i managed to get a solar balloon off the ground. 3 of my other solar balloons I made didnt even fly at all. They were the 5 foot and an 8 foot tetron and even the 15 foot tube that weighed 400 grams wouldn't even lift its own weight off the floor have no idea why. This one is 10 feet in diameter with 13 cubik meter air capacity weighs 700 grames and has a maximum net lift of about 100 grames if there is nil wind.
Sorry about the crapy flights this balloon made last summer in atempt to pop my 100 foot plastic bags on it I am trying to find some thiner bags to make another one for next summer as this one is too heavy to fly

  • It's very very cool. But, why didn't you let it flu to the sky?????

  • Its was too windy that day as of every day here in britain

Flying it flyer than 10 feet seems to be impossible as it is not filled with helium or hot air so it has almost nil lifting capacity Its only warmed by the sun

Please see my lastest videos for some slighty better flights

  • Cool how do you make those? What did you put in the balloon to make it float?

  • Made it from 18 bin very thin bin linners.

I fill it with air from an airbed pump and the heat from the sun makes it rise.

If you make one of these it importent to use the thinnest bags possible and the balloon must be more than 8 feet in diameter to be able to fly.

These balloons will not fly if there is any wind.

  • Decided to travel with my dad today to fly this thing because it was sunny with only 5 mph north east wind. A 20 mile trip just to fly it in a huge flat open field and attach my 100 feet tall plastic bag. About to set it all up got the generater out and air compressor and the god dam british sun goes behind the clouds. waited for over 90 minutes for the sun to come back out and the clouds just got thicker so had to go home. Waste of time that was.

  • Nicely done sir

  • what brand are the made the bag and how thin are they

  • what brand made the bag how thin is it

  • I think if you had a longer tether, it might fly better. As the difference in temperature becomes wider, the balloon should get better lift. R. Buckminster Fuller suggested that the inner temperature of a sphere that is 1 mile in diameter only needs to be 1 degree F warmer than its surrounding temperature in order to stay afloat in the sky.

  • blow it to pop and laught on it like an idiot such as you do in every your video.

  • @bennmug helium of course

  • Wow didn't know you could do that I thought maybe it would take some helium.
