This is a tribute to Neil Slater, University of North Texas Department of Jazz Studies Chair and director of the world renown 6 times Grammy Nominated One O'clock Lab Band. I produced this video for UNT on the occasion of Neil's retirement which was celebrated at the UNT Coliseum "Jazz Legends" event. An audience of 5000 plus television simulcast enabled the concert & this video to be viewed by over 15,000 people. Other features of the night included alumni bands going back to the 70's featuring notable alums including Tom Malone, Lou "Blue Lou" Marini, Frank Greene, Dan Higgins and many more. I'm currently mixing the performances of the bands from that night for future release along with a DVD. Great to see this tribute. I had the pleasure of playing flute in Neil's jazz big band at Mamaroneck High School in 1974. Congratulations Neil!
