In Vieux-Ferrette in Alsace France near Switzerland this gyrocopter lands only by autorotation of the rotor. This ultralight has a nice forward movement to easily approach the air strip. The distance of rolling on ground is very short. Gyrocopters are considered to be among the safest airplanes due to their ability to autorotate so well. This can also be performed by a helicopter. However, rarely a helicopter pilot will turn off the engine to prove it!!!

  • This is a gyrocopter from Magni Italy.

One if the finest manufacturers of gyros in the world.

    See also their web page.

Their newest model "Orion 24" has a closed cabine seating 2 side by side.

    A dream come true :-)

  • So you can fly an autogyro without power but you never thought of putting a sock on your mircophone? Duh!

  • @arcanacelestia

Thank you for your comment. The video was taken with a standard Sony Digital Foto Camera and not a video camera. On these cameras one cannot reduce wind noise. I apologize.

I am happy that you enjoyed the flight demonstration nevertheless.

  • Nice landing.

I must say though, it IS part of helicopter-pilot training to disengage the main rotor and autorotate. At least for military pilots...Thought I throw that in here real quick :-)

  • Thank you for your information.

When I talk to private helicopter pilots they would not dare to land in autorotation.

    So: congratulations to you!
