so i suppose this overlooks the fact that the cause of the Great Depression and the more recent economic collapse were primarily due to lack of regulation: i.e. buying stocks on margin thus inflating the value of those stocks beyond their actual values/capacities (1929), and deregulation of banks (2007).
@SwordOfApollo Well, most people who dislike Ayn Rand haven't read Atlas Shrugged. They have just heard what other people told them about what other people who were told by other people what the book is about.
I find that most who dismiss Ayn Rand’s morality don’t really understand it. Her “selfishness” is long-term, principled self-interest. People are a combination of the physical and mental, and your self-interest includes psychological values. Self-interest is not to be reduced to only the physical, such as money. Other people can be of tremendous psychological value (i.e. friends, lovers, children.) Rand recognized that benevolence toward strangers is in one’s own interest, in a free country.
@Laxanii Note 3 (bonus): I infer from your words, that one must not judge until sufficient information is built up. This is in error and biased towards perfectionism. One can judge with very little or no information even: but it must be a proto-judgment, that one can change in light of more information. Rand advanced the concept of [1] active mind: open
+process data=>judge;[2] Concepts can be built up and distinguished with great knowledge ; [3] Standard is not perfection but human.
@Laxanii Note 2 (continuing): [3] She wrote a FICTION (last branch of Objectivism: aesthetics) in which "Statism" is taking over the nation and heroes seek to get out of that. Yet in "real life" she sides with politicians that support her viewpoint. This IS good. Stallone is ROCKY and RAMBO: in real life he is neither boxer nor soldier But he is the hero! [4] is there anything I have not cleared up yet?
@Laxanii You sound very rational here which is great. An opinion on someone is a judgment (of sorts). So rationally it is the same thing. A judgment can be changed. As for your opinion on Rand: I cleared all that. [1] you said her final position on the evil man was on the 'right' side. [2] I told you that one CAN AND MUST support politicians: those that advance one's point of view (they doN't have to be perfect, if you want PERFECTION then you must stand for the office!)
@britishbrainz I do not judge somebody without getting to know who they are personally. I am not even judging you. To judge someone I don't even know would be naive, let alone to make that judgement based solely on one conversation over one topic. I have an opinion on Ayn Rand's personal life because of her actions based on my own research from multiple sources. You may not agree with me about Rand, and that is fine. I was merely stating facts to back up what I wrote.
@Laxanii 1. You are quick to judge (have you noticed). I am quick to judge (YOU HAVE noticed). This is because human must judge. But not all judgments are equal. Similarly all humans seek their self interest at all things at all times: the only question is whether it is rational (selfish) or irrational (stupid). 2. I "have" look at your points of view over and over and over again: I have "therefore" addressed almost EVERY SINGLE major point ! We have reached the stage that you are REPEATING item
@britishbrainz You meant, "cult." Sorry for misreading that. So because I call blind Objectivists a group of conformed cultists, that leaves you unwilling to make any further discussion to convince me of your viewpoint or allow me to show you mine? That is about as illogical as it gets. If you are unwilling to look at things from others' perspectives, you will remain a narrow-minded being. It is NOT a sacrifice to LOOK at things from others' point of views, by the way.

Not sure why Right winged Republicans love her so much. If she were alive to witness Palin and Bachman, she would have gone insane!
