Do you really know what God says about fornication? Or maybe you only think you know. If you are English speaker it is nearly impossible to you to discover its Biblical meaning.
Why?
Because English word fornication is directly derived from latin word "fornicatio" which has changed its meaning thanks to early church fathers and theologists.

This clip is about fornication and its meaning in the Bible.

This is also a response on Sarahslh 's reaction on discussion under clip http://youtube.com/watch?v=W9y8hFsGHP0

I bet you think that fornication means premarital sex. But original meaning of it is "slightly" different

Items listed in video: 3,4,5,6,7,8,9 stay in relation with pagan rites of fertility godesses, though they're not limited to it.

So called church fathers twisted meanings of every single word related with sexuality. For them even sex between husband and wife was considered as "marital fornication". This term was in use for nearly 1700 years in christian doctrine, especially in Catholic and Protestant churches. They even forged and falsified Word of God (the Bible) to support their teachings. About a 100 years ago this term was refuted by third-way reformation churches like pentecostals. From this moment some of marriage dignity has been restored, through dismising fornication from marriage. But false term on other areas still remians in consciousness and includes contraceptive, allowed positions, forms (like oralism) etc.

You should realize that church fathers hated sexuality and because of it also disgusted marriage and women. They even killed teacher Hypathia and justified it in their consciousness.

For instance, st. John Chrystostom maintained that "where is marriage there is death" (spiritual death because of sex in it).

Augutin was saying that in the paradise God provided children for Adam and Eve, because they couldn't have sex. Later he said that Adam and Eve were reproducing themselves like angels. It was him who connected sexuality with original sin. He said that marital sex disallows spouses to attend in communion. This was later oficially established in catholic canon. Clement of Alexadria stated that woman who colours her hair, does makeup is a fornicator, painted ape and devil's snake (Paidagogos). The same thing said Cyprianus in De habitu virginum. He said that God will not be able to recognize woman with make-up.

st Thomas Aquinas wrote in his Summa Theologica (2-2 q.151 a. 3 ad 2) that nothing brings down [to hell] man's spirit than caress of his wife.

st Jerome said that "spouses live like animals" because "through sexual commixture with wifes men do not differ in anything from pigs and other irrational animals"

Sexual purity in Judaism of Biblical times
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org

Ariel Scheib
"In biblical times, a man was not prohibited from having sexual relations with a woman, as long as it led to marriage. The Bible never explicitly states a woman and man may not have sexual intercourse prior to marriage; therefore, no sanction was imposed for premarital sex, but it was considered a violation of custom (...) rabbinic scholars of the Talmud prohibited prostitution and premarital sex with no intention of marriage."

orthodox rabbi Shmuley Boteach
"Many people are surprised to learn that the Torah does not prohibit premarital sex. I challenge you to find any passage in the Jewish scriptures that forbits a man from having consensual sexual relations with any woman he could legally marry. It's just not there! (..) This is not to suggest that Judaism approves of pre-marital sex or promiscuity. (..) Jewish law prohibits an unmarried, unrelated man and woman from being alone long enough to have sexual relations. But these laws come from the Talmud and the Shulchan Aruch, not from the Torah"

  • And I will add, that in Old Testament there was no specific cannon against fornication. You are completely right. If man and woman were found having sex, they were asked to get married - simple as that. It was no sin. But as I said - Paul is clear that, sex before marriage is a grave sin, because sex in general is sin unless you do it with your spouse.

  • @Otherguylb Where did you get knowledge that 1. people having premarital sex were asked to get married 2. sex in general is sin? These two statements are not biblical. You won't find any single verse supporting it. Instead you will find plethora of others supporting the opposite. One of them I've showed to you.

You can believe what you want, but please don't tell that it is God who commanded you to believe it. It is men that created your teachings, sorry.

  • Hebrews 11:31 --- By faith Rahab the harlot(PORNE)

And what does harlot mean? And can you reread Rahab's story to understand she was a prostitute?

  • @Otherguylb Rahab according to texts we have was prostitute (either lay or temple, this we don't know). Her story is told in Joshua 2:1-16. Old and new English translations give porne as harlot or prostitute according to translator's will. Especially translators following churches' guidlines translate this word as harlot. However in Hebrew this word means mainly prostitute (especially the temple one) or sometimes adulteress (the wife who sleeps with not her husband).

  • Very irresponsible video. Paul, 1 Corinthians 7:

    2. But since there is so much immorality(porneias), each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.

8Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am.

9But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

So how can you burn with passion if you enjoy premarital sex? And how can marriage save you?

  • @Otherguylb The answer is very simple. Ex 21,7-11 shows commandment for maidservant / some sort of concubine. In marriage both spouses have equal rights to sex, but in concubinage according to Bible it is woman who has rights to sex and it is her who establishes frequency and forms. This is why a man may not satisfy his needs with concubine living according to Bible and thus he would burn with passion and end with prostitute. Take into account they didn't have safe contraceptives in that times.

  • @jfedgar Marriage is not just a solution to sexual immorality, it is also YHWH's plan to end loneliness, provide companionship, provide a helper, mutual support, children, joy etc..Its clear as day that Paul was speaking of masturbation! Also i would encourage you to do more research on the definitions of fornication and adultry!!They are very different. Fornication is used many different ways in the bible! Also does the bible constitute marriage as having a piece of paper?

  • @Enoch2 I've got litlte time now. But as to Boteach. I've confronted him with encyclopedia judaica about premarital sex and he is corect with respect to ancient judaism and with respect to Bible in Hebrew.

#2 As to premarital sex. OT shows us concubines and maidservants (Ex 21,7-11) as lawful and still which were not wives (John 4,18) as it is falsely taught by some people. Beware of English translations of the Bible. There are words nonexisting in original as for example "wife" in ex 21,7-11

  • @maxo287 Your definition excludes women as relevant. You postulate that because men are not happy with one woman, that it must be unnatural, but what of the fact that women ARE happy with it, and are quite devastated when that is deviated from? Is the only viewpoint valid enough to judge what is right a male viewpoint? Doesn't the fact that multiple partners hurts half of the population prove that it IS wrong, according to your own reasoning inverted to include women as valid?

  • MARITAL FORNICATION! This is a paradox! After creating Adam and Eve and taking them to the garden, God told them to be fruitful and multiply. Paul even wrote to a group of people that the couples THAT ARE MARRIED TO EACH OTHER can abstain for sex for fasting and prayer IN AN AGREEMENT. Then, they can continue having sex. I am getting a hint of the doctrine of demons while I am watching the video. "The marriage bed be honorable to all; God will judge the fornicator and the sexually immoral."

  • @bigboyburnsy Married means having a child together, this is married, married is not going to a church to do anything. Have you ever married ketchup bottles together? you are mixing the 2 different bottles together, its the same thing with you and your girl friend. When 2 people come together and have sex then have a child, this makes you both mixed together, married together into one person. This is the true meaning of married.

  • Supremecommander, I have sex with my girlfriend almost every weekend, we are not married but we love each other very much and plan to get married in the near future, are we committing sins when we have premarital sex?

  • I said it few times - Old Testament isn't against premarital sex, unless the woman is already someone else's property(wife).

BUT in New Testament, Paul says: "It's better for man, not to touch woman at all, but if you can't hold it - marry." The idea of new testament is whole lot different from the Old.

The word "Pornea" means - sexual immorality, which Paul thought would be any sexual activity outside of marriage.

I don't understand what's your motivation for disagreeing...

  • vale women...but some christians think women in islam are extreme for wearing a vale

  • First of all, I agree that Old Testament was absolutely patriarchal and kings had lot of concubines. But Paul, in New Testament, says: "It's better for a man not to touch woman at all, but he can't hold it, let him marry." New Testament is very different from Old, it's basically a new belief system.
