Pittsburgh G20 - Police use LRAD

On Liberty Avenue Police use LRAD Sonic Weapon (Long Range Acoustic Device) to try to disperse crowd.

If you look close, there are two LRAD's; one on top of the truck (ATC LRAD 500x), and one on the back of a very large pickup truck (ATC LRAD 1000x)

I believe the 500x was used for announcements while the 1000x was wailing the siren.

Well seems to me that one of two things is true: - Either the sonic tweeter noise is being superimposed onto this video clip -OR- - the LRAD developers need to refund their purchasers since it is ineffective ...

because there is not the slightest hint that any of the people can hear a thing. The background band is as disturbing to people milling around as the LRAD tweeting is.

Is that other people's impression?

A few things:

-This video was taken about 200-300 meters from the LRAD.

-From what I am told it was never turned up all the way.

-Even at the distance I was, LRAD was annoying, and slightly discomforting. Other people (with more sensitive hearing, I suppose) seemed to be more effected, and backed up once it was turned on.

What about heavy electromagnetic pulse to shut this tweeter down? Let all the protesters to turn their phones off, then attach microwave inductor to a satellite dish, direct it to LRAD and turn it on. Seems to be the only affordable way of radiostrike for citizens.

Isn't it just dandy that they'd use such devices against the citizens of the US? Or police brutality and intimidation? We have the right to PROTEST our concerns and opposition to anything, even the unsolicited agendas of other world leaders. Makes you wonder why our "American" govt insults us this way.

@summo55 In Germany they are usually using the band playing awful music to keep away the decent people from public events. The rest keeps on hanging around sedating their brain with alcohol. In 2008 I was in Zürich, Switzerland. About 5 band were playing different music styles but not even one piece of music was annoying. That was a strange experience for me.
