but I'm left with one question - how many takes did it take to film the tablecloth shot?

What I liked most about this episode was how they portrayed the relationship between Holmes, Watson and Lestrade. All too often Lestrade has been depicted as a tolerated bungler. In the original stories Holmes actually liked him and said he was the best of a bad lot, if I remember correctly. I'm glad I found this episode. Thanks for uploading it.

Brilliant from start to finish!
Though I am certain I read this story when I was young, it was great to see the oft-mentioned adaptation of it. Jeremy was really a fabulous actor. There is great subtlety in all his gestures, from his wildest outbursts to his nuanced facial expressions. *sigh*
Thank you so much, gelert, for allowing me the pleasure. :)

That's one of the best Sherlock Holmes episodes I've seen so far. Jeremy Brett as Mr Holmes is perfect. I really like his expressions *___*
