The growing instability in Pakistan and Afghanistan topped the agenda when President Obama met with Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai in Washington. The regional talks were initially expected to focus on countering the Taliban in Afghanistan, but recent turmoil in Pakistan has generated concern that Islamabad's problems are more serious.
