On 11 November 2011, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy held a Public Discussion entitled "Nuclear Disarmament, Security, and Safety: Remembering Japan and Global Challenges Ahead". After the welcome address by Ambassador Fred Tanner, the Director of the GCSP, the event opened with three distinguished speakers offering "Remembrance and Messages of Peace": Mr Kazumi Matsui, the Mayor of Hiroshima, Japan; Mr Tomihisa Taue, Mayor of Nagasaki, Japan; and Mr Shigemi Hukahori, a survivor of the Nagasaki bombings, all of whom delivered personal remarks.
