Driving Haleakala

A typical daily drive from Makawao whilst over in Maui from the UK working on a telescope on the summit of Haleakala. A long drive there and back each day but a great experience travelling and working with some of the best people in the business.
The cars we could hire were rubbish though. Thanks GM!! They're not designed to cope with the corners that we Brits are so used to.

You have no Idea, driving above the clouds is like nothing else... There was total silence in the car the entire way to the top. I would like to do it again some day... at night...

I've been 4 times to Maui and driving to the top of Haleakala is something that it's impossible to get tired of doing it...

I can just imagine the difference of driving on this road with a Lotus Elise or a Subaru Impreza STI rather than a rented Ford Crown Victoria...
