Forced marriage remains a serious problem constraining the rights of women and girls in northern Iraq's Kurdish region. Particularly in rural areas, male family members often choose who and when young women will marry without taking their opinions into account. This practice represents a human rights violation that must be stopped.

In addition to forced marriage, pressure from society to wed, has young women choosing to marry, anyone, in spite of the man’s questionable background, (e.g. divorce, crimes) to obtain status of marriage. The girls do whatever it takes and they falsify unconsciously "love" to justify desperation. Usually the older men who marry 20 years their junior, this it is a controlling "head" game, psychologically, spiritually, an attempt to "mold" a young mind and to secure a nurse's aid in old age.
