The device on my friends old James 197 bike is a reed valve inserted between the carb and the inlet manifold. Reed valves were not new so that was not my invention but nobody before had positioned it in that way and it therefore became a "bolt on goodie" adaptable and available for any machine. Of course the reed valve assembly had to be designed and built, and I am sorry that I could not show you any photos of it. Interestingly. Many two strokes now have some method of achieving asymetrical porting and the reed valve is one way of doing this and many including Yamaha fit it in the way that I did all those years ago. I guess that I should have patented it, :)

  • I really don't think its you , pal, but the aged condition of the machine you are operating. I visited a cousin in Mpls, and tried to ride the Norton bike we used in the 60s.. it wouldn't go very fast and we both fell off.. we are a little weightier altho, after 40 + years...he still has the bike! cheers! thanks for sharing..

  • Hello There geriatric1927 you did fine while riding your grandsons bike ! .... I have seen people 20 years old ride worse then that ! ..... GOOD JOB ! and keep it up :)

  • @texmanro

I like that quote that you used: "Every state of life has its beauty".

I'm going to start doing that, it's definitely a good perspective to have on life.

  • I won't pretend I understand or care about the mechanical stuff. I just wanted to comment that I was quite impressed by you and your mate's balance on that contraption, especially at such a slow speed! I'd have tumbled over like I had rocks in my pocket. Haha!

  • You are so awesome! Keep doing what you do and no, your topics are not stupid. Instead, they're just amazing things that other Youtubers usually don't touch upon. Greetings from Canada!

  • You have all of my respect! Best wishes from England!

  • you look like you're riding the bike well, mate. I didn't see you fall off or anything.

  • I HOPE YOU NEVERRRRRRR DIE

  • Please don't call this a "stupid topic"! There is so much young people can learn from older people if they would just listen. Videos like yours are a great way to make them pay attention! :D

  • I hope I can still get on and ride a motorcycle when I'm your age. I think you did well to ride it. Take care. Rich
